CELEBRATING 25 YEARS OF ORIGINAL LADINO MUSIC

 

Sarah Aroeste brings her newest project Orijinal (en bivo) to the stage, a vibrant new live project
celebrating the songs that have defined her career and expanded the possibilities of contemporary
Sephardic music.

Since 2001, internationally acclaimed singer, songwriter, author, and cultural activist Sarah
Aroeste has drawn upon her family roots in North Macedonia and Greece to share Ladino song
and Sephardic culture with new generations. With her signature blend of Mediterranean
influences, contemporary songwriting, and stories rooted in Sephardic history and culture, she
has toured across the globe, released nine recordings, written five children’s books, and helped
shape a vibrant contemporary movement celebrating Sephardic music and identity.

Her newest project, Orijinal (en bivo), honors 25 years of original Ladino songwriting. Drawn
from across her discography, Aroeste has returned to the original Ladino songs that have
resonated most deeply throughout her career. Together, they trace an artistic journey shaped by
questions of ancestry, belonging, motherhood, memory, grief, gratitude, resilience, and hope.
Reimagined for a live audience, they reveal the remarkable range of Aroeste’s original Ladino
repertoire, from infectious Mediterranean rhythms and soaring melodies to intimate reflections
on family, identity, and home.

Orijinal (en bivo) is both a career retrospective and a declaration of what Ladino music can be.
The result is a program rooted in centuries of Sephardic culture yet unmistakably of the present.
