Claire
Barry. To call
her a singer is an oversimplification... like saying Picasso was
just a painter... or calling a croissant a roll. She has a quality
and an elegance, which sets her apart just as a diamond is set apart
from a zircon.
Her career
goes back decades, when as a little girl as half of the singing
Barry Sisters she charmed people all through the world. The hit
records and personal appearances touring the world on peace visits
to Russia with Ed Sullivan, singing for Israeli troops during the
Yom Kippur War (at the request of the Israeli Government), and world
tours just to entertain audiences.
The death
of her sister did not effect her drive and power to entertain audiences.
She is an ageless powerful solo performer, who has continued to
tour and electrify audiences. Live performances by Claire Barry
are about transporting the audience to another place and time. Her
vast repertoire includes songs in Yiddish, English, Hebrew, and
Russian. Songs that make you want to dance, songs that make you
want to laugh, and songs that make you want to cry.
And her
audience is just as vast as her repertoire of songs. She has fans
that can remember the early days of her career singing on the Yiddish
Radio, all the way to fans who are the grandkids of her original
radio audience. Not to mention the legion of fans that she has collected
around the world during her many years of touring. Even in the twilight
of her career she is still looking for the bigger and better: In
June of 2004 she performed at Carnegie Hall with Neil Sedaka.
